Executive Officer - CEOS ,ESA/ESRIN, Italy
After completing Masters degrees in both Britain and France, Mr Hosford began his career in the UK at the then Marconi Research Centre as a Research Engineer specialised in remote sensing. In 2002, he moved to the French Geological Survey where he was in charge of the IGOS Geohazards Bureau from 2003 to 2006. From there, Mr Hosford joined the Strategy and Programmes directorate of the French Space Agency CNES in 2006 as Solid Earth Programmes manager and, in this role, looked after the interface with the French science community in this domain, organising the EO component of the four-yearly French “Future missions” Symposium in October 2009. Having frequently heard from the user perspective of the challenges in obtaining EO data from space agencies, Mr Hosford changed roles to focus on EO data access at CNES, initiating the SPOT World Heritage Programme to open the SPOT archive, and looking after access to CNES high resolution data for the national and international science communities. In this role he reorganised CNES’s programmes for access to this data, extending these to international programmes such as GFOI, GEOGLAM, the Polar and Disasters research communities. Mr Hosford represented CNES at the Board of the International Charter from 2012 to 2016, and has been the CNES Point of Contact for the Committee on Earth Obervation Satelites between 2008 and 2017. He is currently seconded by CNES to ESA and fills the role of CEOS Executive Officer.
