Mr. Syed T. Ahmed has been with the United Nations for over 8 years now, currently working in the Space Applications section, within the ICT and Disaster Risk Reduction division of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), based in Bangkok, Thailand. He was previously working in ICT for Development, for the UN Regional Commission covering Western Asia (ESCWA), based in Beirut, Lebanon.
Before Joining the UN, Mr. Ahmed held brief positions at a disaster-related NGO, the UK Civil Service, as well as in the pharmaceutical industry and news and media, based in Switzerland and the UK. He has a bachelor’s degree in software engineering, specialising in mobile development and satellite mapping, as well as a master’s degree in international development, specializing in poverty and inequality, both from the UK.

“Integrating geospatial information for sustainable Asia and the Pacific”, which will focus on: 1) achievement under the Regional Space Applications Programme for Sustainable Development; 2) the outcomes of the third Ministerial Conference on Space Applications for Sustainable Development in Asia and Pacific, to be held on 10 October 2018, and 3) implementation of the Asia-Pacific plan of action on Space Applications for Sustainable Development (2018-2030).
